Professional Biography

A graduate of Yale University (BA, summa cum laude) and Thunderbird (MBA, Presidential Scholar), Dan has spent 20 years as an award-winning entrepreneur, thought leader, trainer, best-selling author, journalist, and consultant to a “who’s who” of Fortune‑caliber clientele.

As the founder and CEO of trainAbility, Dan was the first person in the world to deliver independent Windows 2000 and Active Directory training, supporting early adopters including Hewlett-Packard, AT&T, General Electric, Los Alamos, Compaq, Johnson & Johnson, the Federal Reserve. trainAbility’s 400%-1000% annual growth rates earned Dan recognition as an Entrepreneur of the Year, and trainAbility a “Startup Business of the Year” award.

In 2002, Dan founded Intelliem, a boutique consulting and training firm with a Fortune-caliber clientele and deep expertise and experience in Windows, Active Directory, and SharePoint. High‑profile customers include Raytheon, the Capital Group, Penton Media, and Microsoft. Dan also serves as the Microsoft Technologies Consultant for NBC Olympics, supporting the broadcast of six Olympic games: Rio (2016), Sochi (2014), London (2012), Vancouver (2010), Beijing (2008), and Torino (2006).

Dan served as the Chief SharePoint Evangelist for AvePoint in 2011-2012, where he represented AvePoint to customers, press, and industry partners on all seven continents. Dan helped drive strategy and governance discussions with C‑level executives at some of the largest SharePoint implementations in the world, and represented customer feedback to guide product development strategies and engineering roadmaps.

In 2014, Dan co-founded IT Unity, a media, events, and digital marketing company serving the Office 365 and SharePoint communities worldwide. As CEO, Dan built IT Unity’s strong brand, customer base, and reputation among users, partners, and experts around the globe.

Through is career as a technology evangelist, thought leader and guide, Dan maintained a highly visible and respected position in the technical community, thanks to his unique combination of technical expertise, business acumen, and best-of-class ability to communicate across business, technical, and cultural boundaries. He was a featured technical and keynote speaker at events including Microsoft Ignite!, SharePoint Conference, TechEd and the European SharePoint Conference. Dan was a contributing editor for SharePoint Pro Connections and Windows IT Pro magazines. His books and courses, published by Microsoft Learning, regularly topped the best-sellers list for technical titles on Amazon.com.

Dan reached hundreds of thousands of executives, IT professionals, executives, and users at almost every Fortune 100 enterprise, and more than half of the Fortune 500 and Global 1000. He earned recognition as a Microsoft MVP for ten years, across four technologies: Windows Server Directory Services, SharePoint Server, Office 365, and Office Servers & Services. He was recognized as one of the top 5 influencers in the SharePoint community and as one of the top 10 partner MVPs in the world.
